HR and Management Training

HR Fundamentals provide a range of training courses to help improve people’s management skills.

We provide both in-house training, and course training material to allow organisations to run their own courses.

Our in-house courses are developed through a straightforward process of consultation and discussion. We aim to provide delegates with content that is clear, in-depth and useful.

Effective Performance Appraisals

Planning the appraisal meeting; conducting supervision meetings; handling poor performance; questioning techniques; documentation; analysing training and development needs; introduction to succession planning.

Course duration: 2 days

Understanding Equal Opportunities

Introduction to discrimination legislation; understanding the various forms of discrimination (including direct and indirect); accommodating disability and managing capability issues; promoting diversity and eliminating discrimination; identifying and eliminating harassment; effective record keeping and auditing of equal opportunities.

Course duration: 1 day

Writing Job Descriptions

The importance and purpose of written job descriptions; how to define role competencies; outlining a job’s tasks and responsibilities; using role profiles in recruitment and performance appraisals; when to review and revise existing job descriptions; job descriptions versus role profiles; determining appropriate qualifications, skills and behaviours.

Course duration: 1 day, plus a half day 'workshop'

Handling Grievance and Disciplinary Issues

Why ignoring grievance and disciplinary issues isn't a strategy; legislation that impacts how issues should be dealt with; best practices and suggested approaches; conducting investigations; the different mechanisms for terminating employment; handling aggressive and defensive employees; keeping effective records.

Course duration: 2 days

Recruitment and Selection

Working with recruitment agencies; other methods of recruitment advertising; interview skills and questioning techniques; selecting the right candidate; understanding teams and their growth; using testing materials and personality profiling; managing induction and probation; staff retention and succession planning.

Sickness Absence

The impact of excessive absence; types of absence, including recurrent and persistent sickness; record keeping; strategies for improving time-keeping and attendance; identifying and resolving capability issues; obtaining medical records; using occupational health services; return to work interviews.
