Internet, Email and Telephone Policy
Access to the Internet and email can create significant risks for employers.
Inappropriate Internet and email use can expose a company to risks such as security threats, viruses, legal action and complaints from other employees. (Sometimes common sense does not prevail!)
It is essential that all employers providing Internet or email access have a policy and procedure that explains the disciplinary consequences of inappropriate use.
This policy and procedure explains that employees must use Internet and email for appropriate work related purposes only and that the Company may monitor web and email traffic.
The document also includes a section on employee blogging and clearly explains to employees that they must not bring the company into disrepute or publish sensitive or confidential information.
In addition to Internet and email use, the policy also covers telephone usage (both mobile and fixed line), including specifically requiring employees not to use their mobile phone whilst driving for talking or sending text messages.
