Paternity policy

This policy is included in the Employee Handbook.

Employees who become a parent have the right to paternity leave and pay, regardless of marital status, sex or length of service. However employees need to meet certain criteria in order to receive pay and take paternity leave.

It is therefore extremely important for an employer to explain to all employees who is (and isn't) entitled to paternity leave, how much time off work employees can take, what they will be paid whilst on leave and when they need to return to work.

This policy defines the company's policy in relation to paternity leave and pay, and procedures that all parties concerned need to follow.

Some of the topics covered in this policy:

  • Eligibility and entitlements of fathers, partners and adoptive parents.
  • Statutory paternity pay (SPP).
  • Paternity leave period and number of weeks duration.
  • Attending ante-natal appointments.
  • Pay, benefits and employment rights (e.g. returning to work).
  • Stillbirths and child deaths.
