Grievance Documents
General employment complaints and disputes can sometimes be resolved through the informal communication process. However, occassionally employees may decide to take their grievances one stage further by lodging a formal grievance (which they are legally entitled to do), or by appealing against a formal grievance decision.
Our documents within this section are aimed at helping an employer manage activities associated with grievance and grievance appeal matters by making the process a more manageable task, including:
- informally dealing with minor disputes and grievances
- documenting all grievances and disputes
- inviting employees, in writing, to attend a formal grievance hearing prior to making a decision
- investigating grievance matters prior to making a decision about a grievance
- giving employees sufficient time prior to formal grievance hearings in order to prepare for the meeting and arrange to be accompanied at the hearing, should they wish
- giving employees the opportunity to explain their point of view and any background information to support their case at all formal grievance hearings
- confirming within a reasonable timeframe a grievance hearing decision reached and the outcome of the grievance hearing
- giving employees the right to appeal against formal grievance decisions
- inviting employees, in writing, to attend a grievance appeal hearing and investigating matters raised, prior to making a grievance appeal decision
- communicating in writing a grievance appeal decision
- reaching satisfactory conclusions in grievance situations
- complicance with UK Dispute Regulations
Employees have a legal right to raise a grievance and appeal a grievance hearing decision.
Our employee grievance documents are aimed at helping an employee raise a grievance with their employer and appeal a grievance hearing decision, as quickly and easily as possible.
Our employee documents ensure an employee fully explains their grievances (and appeal reasons) in writing to their employer, and includes both:
- a standard letter to send to an employer
- an extensive list of common grievance (and grievance appeal) reasons from which an employee can choose or add to when putting forward their case to their employer
